Replacing The Flatbed Scanner On The Hewlett-Packard 4345 MFP Laser Printer

To get the flatbed scanner out, you will need to first remove the ADF assembly. To lift or move the ADF unit, you must first remove it. Place the ADF unit on a flat surface once it is removed.

1). Turn off your printer and unplug the power cord.

2). Look towards the back of your printer to see the ADF Cable that runs from the ADF back to the scanner controller board. The cover must be removed to reach the scanner control board. After the cover has been removed, a grounding screw must be removed. You can now disconnect the cables. Make sure you note how the cable is routed from the cable holder to the scanner bed before you disconnect it.

3). As if you were going make a copy of the flatbed scanner, open the ADF assembly and take it off the scanner. The ADF assembly has been calibrated for use with the scanner that it is attached to. The scanner must be calibrated to the ADF in order to replace or install it onto another flatbed scanner.

4). Move the scanner assembly towards the upward position. Now, face the front of your printer and remove the front edge. This is the piece that runs along the top edge of the flatbed.

5). 5.

6. To remove the cover for the right side scanner, turn your back towards the printer.

7). The top cover should be closed. These two screws can be avoided by using a magnetized screwdriver. This cover has a spring at its rear that is not locked. You must not lose the spring while removing the cover.

8). The plate is made of metal and has a number of holes. The three larger holes will need to be drilled out.

9). 9.

10). Face the printer’s front, move the scanner to the right. Then lift the scanner off the printer. While the scanner assembly is being removed, be sure to not release its latch. If the scanner assembly isn’t installed, the gas shocks that support it can cause damage to the platform of the sheet metal scanner.

For a correct position of the scanner assembly, ensure that you align the mark on your scanner with the mark on your control panel. Once the scanner assembly is correctly aligned on the sheet metal platform slide it toward the left until it locks in place.
