Indy man sentenced to 7 years in prison for making gun conversion devices

INDIANAPOLIS —An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to over seven years in prison for making “Glock switches” and “auto-sears” using a 3D printer and selling them.

Micah Moore, 31, pleaded guilty for possessing a machinegun. He was sentenced for seven years and six month.

According to court documents, investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department searched Moore’s house in Indianapolis on July 18, 2022.

The police recovered two Glock switches or machinegun converters in the dining room. The police also found three black auto-sears, which were designed to be used as machinegun conversion devices when installed on semiautomatic rifles.

Even when they are not installed, police say that conversion devices are machine guns under federal laws and it is illegal to own or sell them.

Moore confessed to police that he had used a 3D-printer to make and sell switches and autosears. He said he also resold guns that he purchased on the streets.

“Criminals who put illegal machineguns onto our streets add fuel to the fire of gun violence already devastating far too many of our families,” Zachary A. Myers, the United States attorney for the southern district of Indiana, said. “Possession and sale of these extremely dangerous devices is a serious crime which can result in years in federal prison. Our office will continue to work with the ATF, IMPD, and all our partners in law enforcement to get illegal machineguns out of our communities and hold gun traffickers accountable.”

Moore will receive supervision from the U.S. once he is released from prison. Probation Office must be paid a $750 penalty and three-year probation.
