HP printers may be the best-selling products in the world, but they aren’t immortals. Some parts of the printer may need to be repaired or replaced after a set period of time or a number of pages have been printed. It is important to have a basic understanding of printer repair so we can identify the parts we need to replace the printer and keep it in good working order.

Checklist:

Before we can begin to repair, there are some things we must first check. The following is a list.

• The printer is plugged in, and the outlet is working properly
• Paper tray is properly loaded and with the right paper
• The printer cartridge is the same as indicated in the specifications, and it is loaded properly.
• The humidity and temperature on the printer’s environment meet the specifications stated in the manual.

These conditions must be met or the problem could arise.

Common HP Printer Issues

• Jammed paper. Jammed papers can sometimes be found in printer exit and entrance points. The most common reason paper jams is the incorrect size of the paper. First, open the printer’s front door to clear out any paper jamming. You should be gentle when pulling out the paper. The internal wheel printer can also be rotated to help push the paper out.

• Printer is not communicating with computer. You can test the printer by printing a test sheet. The printer should print the test page properly. If not, you will need to inspect the cable connecting the printer and the computer. If the cable isn’t damaged or worn, inspect it. You can use a spare cable if it is available to solve the problem. If the problem persists, uninstall the printer software. Then install it again. Also, make sure you have the latest driver installed on your computer.

• Printer is not responding. Sometimes printers freeze too. To fix frozen printers, simply push the power button for several seconds and then reboot it. Wait at least 1 minute after the printer shuts down before turning it on again.

• Parts need replacement. Cartridges are the most frequently replaced parts. You may need to replace the cartridges if the quality of the printed material is not as good as you expect. Check the rollers of your paper picker for wear and tear. A paper that isn’t gripping well can be caused by worn out rollers. Exit rollers may be to blame if noise is made during exit. It is time to replace exit rollers that are damaged, worn, hardened, or glazed. The transport belts can also be a problem for printers. Make sure the belts don’t have too much slack. If they do, it is time to replace them.

These are easy steps to help you keep your printer running. Professional help is available if the problem needs to be investigated in depth.
