Fake currency racket busted in Pathankot three arrested for possessing fake Indian currency


Pathankot Police cracked down on counterfeit currency and were successful in dismantling an illegal currency syndicate in Pathankot. Three key suspects were arrested. Surprisingly, the suspects were caught manufacturing and circulating low value counterfeit currency from a rental property.

They were identified as Ajay K Sharma Sharma (35) of Nehru Nagar and Mithun (36) New Colony Nehru Nagar Pathankot. Sanjay Kumar (37) 4 Marla quarter Ram Nagar Pathankot.

The police team was able retrieve counterfeit Indian Currency Notes, (FICN), of high-quality value. They were worth Rs. 2.52 lakh. The counterfeit currency was produced using a single printer, one paper cutter, ink bottles and A4 paper.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Harkamal Preet Singh Khaakh, disclosed details to the media that a tip was received by the division No. 1 police station. 1 on December 16 concerning the involvement of certain persons in the printing and circulation of FICN Pathankot. SHO division No. 1 led a police party that acted quickly. 1 Mandeep Salhotra, under the direction of DSP City Lakhwinder Sing, conducted a Nakabandi in Gahri Ahta chowk. The suspect was driving an automobile with fake Indian currency Rs. 200.

Police Station Division No. 1 Pathankot under Indian Penal Code Sections 488, 488-B and 488-C against the aforementioned suspects. The accused was also able to retrieve four thousand rupees of counterfeit Indian currency worth two hundred notes.

Ajay Sharma was arrested during preliminary investigations. He revealed that he works as a station health inspector for the Station Health Organization, Pathankot. He began using drugs. He was stationed for 10 years in Srinagar Valley before he moved to Pathankot. He met Sanjay Kumar, Mithun and other Pathankot residents upon his arrival. Both were drug addicts. Ajay made fake currency in his Pathankot rental house in Nehru Nagar and sold it on the Pathankot market through Mithun or Sunny. He also used the fake money to buy drugs from Channi Beli.

Ajay Sharma disclosed that fake currency amounted to Rs. A printing machine, laptops and plain white papers were found in his rental home. He also had cutters and glue. During the search, 25 ATM-cumdebit cards were also found.

SSP Khakh stated, “The suspects apprehended would be presented before the local courts and that a request would then be made for further investigation and identification of any additional persons involved in the incident.”

To determine the source of the counterfeit currency notes, further investigation is ongoing. Police are also investigating the possibility that an international racket may be involved in this case.

We take this matter seriously and will do everything in our power to stop this criminal activity. SSP added that we will take steps to ensure that these activities are stopped before they begin.

Pathankot Police appealed for citizens to be cautious and not accept fake currency notes from anybody. Anybody with information about fake currency is asked to contact the police station.
