Tell us your favorite memory with your dad

May 27—Father’s Day is right around the corner and now is the time for reflection.

Dayton.com and The Dayton Daily News want to know about all the wonderful times you have had with your father or what you love most about him. Your responses may be featured on our Father’s Day tribute Sunday, June 18

Melissa Fields, of West Carrollton in Ohio, and her dad George W. Schram share a common love of food. Schram moved to Ohio again in 2020. She started taking her dad to Taco Wednesday every week, but soon grew tired of Mexican cuisine.

Fields told her father, “I’m not taking you to Taco Tuesday but I will take another place.” “I wanted to go to some of the restaurants on Dayton Foodies.”

Dayton Foodies, a Facebook page that allows people to write reviews about restaurants in Dayton and get restaurant recommendations. Fields began uploading pictures of her adventures and her dad who she calls “Mr. Grumpy,” or “Mr. Complainer” to the page.

It’s hard to impress him, but some restaurants he loves include Bullwinkle’s Top Hat Bistro, Bennett’s Publical Family Sports Bar, or Sea Jax Tavern, both in Kettering.

Schram, who is 88 years old, was born in Dayton and served during the Korean War. After the war, Schram worked as an employee at McCall’s for many years until it closed.

Fields told Fields, “I really appreciate his work ethics.” “He could have just been like everyone else. “He could have been like everyone else.”

Schram worked as a printer in Georgia before retiring for more than 30 years. Fields said he had many favorite eating spots, including diners that served southern cuisine.

She remembered him visiting her in Georgia. She always remembered dining out. She said he would go out to eat every night at a certain restaurant.

He loves to eat at restaurants. Fields explained that he was a person who loved to eat out. “Everyone knew him so it was a big change.”

Schram ate alone at times, even though he enjoyed dining with friends in Georgia. Fields is excited to share her love of food and try out new restaurants in Dayton with Schram.

Fields commented, “He’s always been a foodie.” “He loves food. He loves eating out. “He loves the interaction he has with the staff and the people he goes with.”

Dayton.com will be sharing a meal in an upcoming story, prior to Father’s Day.
