HP OfficeJet printers are bricking following a recent software update

Hewlett-Packard has released a software update for its OfficeJet Printers earlier this month. This caused some devices to be unusable. Since about the second week of May, the have been rife with complaints of OfficeJet printers bricking after they automatically installed the company’s most recent firmware update.

The touchscreen of an affected printer displays a blue screen displaying the error code: 83C0000B. Unfortunately, there appears to be no way for someone to fix a printer broken in this way on their own, partly because factory resetting an HP OfficeJet requires interacting with the printer’s touchscreen display. HP customers say that the only way to fix the issue is to send the printer to be serviced.

OfficeJet 902x printers, such as the Pro 9022e and Pro 9025e models, are affected. If you own an OfficeJet printer, for the time being, your best bet is to disconnect your printer from the internet so that it doesn’t automatically download the buggy update.

HP acknowledged this issue on Saturday and said The company was working to fix the problem. “Our teams are working diligently to address the blue screen error affecting a limited number of HP OfficeJet Pro 9020e printers,” the company said. “We are recommending customers experiencing the error to contact our customer support team for assistance: .”

This isn’t the first time one of HP’s recent software updates has created a headache for its customers. In March, it appeared that the company was going to push its unpopular security update even further. It caused more of its printers to stop working with third-party cartridges.
