Canon PIXMA MP330 Printer Review

Canon Pixma MX330 inkjet printer is ideal for small offices and home offices. This all-in-one printer does not have a separate ink tank. It only has two cartridges: one black and one colour.

The black tank has a pigment-based dye tank. This allows you to have the best of both worlds. Canon lists page yields for both the black and colour tanks at 220 and 244, respectively.

The MX330 features a 1200×2400 dpi scanner, as well an automated document feeder that can batch scan and copy. It will also hold 30 sheets A4. You can also make collated copies, so you can put two or four pages on one page. The front USB slot can be used to store a memory card and then scan it directly in case you need.

To help you use the menus and the unit, there is a Liquid crystal screen measuring 1.8 inches. It takes up less space than modern all-in ones but it works. A 33.6kpps fax is also available to enhance the Canon’s business side.

The Canon is stylish enough to be both plain and simple with its grey and black surfaces. The MX330 feels like it can withstand all the rigors of office life.

The MX330 is a device that targets people who work more with business documents than photos. This was also evident in the test results. Text quality is very good for an ink-based device – it’s even better than some laser quality prints we have seen. Both in best and standard modes, the text quality is exceptional. A page of draft text was available and ready for use in nine seconds. Although this isn’t bad, a page of best texts took one minute and 37 seconds. It is not a long time, but it is slower than many of Canon’s other all-in-ones.

Although the total time it took to produce ten pages of graphics and text took six minutes, the quality made up for that. The combined text and graphics output were excellent, so it is obvious where the printer’s talents lie.

Although not as impressive, the overall performance of the photograph was good. A 4×4 photo took just 1 minute and 42 seconds. That is quite impressive, but the quality was not the best. While there were obvious flaws in the dark areas of the image, the overall tone and colour were good. The Canon is fine if you print only a few shots, but that’s all we would recommend.

The Canon Pixma MX330 was designed for those who print more text and PDF documents than images. It’s also great at printing photos with its two ink cartridges. At £80 it’s superb value for money.

We were all pleased with the Canon. It works well, and although photos aren’t great, they aren’t bad. Therefore, we can let it go. The Canon is a great all-in-one for small offices, with fax and auto document feeder.
